S. Darko, sequel to Donnie Darko?

A poster for the upcoming "sequel" to Donnie Darko, titled S. Darko, has surfaced on the all-knowing Internets. Here it is, and it actually looks semi-entertaining.

Taken from www.moviesonline.ca:

The poster looks the part of the original Darko, but maybe too much so. If we look at one of the posters of Donnie Darko:

You can see that both posters look awfully similar, and S. Darko seems to have Frank as the bunny yet again. Anyone who has seen Donnie Darko, however, knows that when Donnie went back in time to save his family and his girlfriend he reset the system, so Frank didn't have anything to do with the family except for his fleeting memories of deja vu.

What will be interesting to see is how S. Darko utilizes this dilemma from the last film. Will it encompass the fact that when a path has been set it cannot be undone, so that even though Frank did not gill Gretchen, he will still cause some trouble to the Darko household? This is seven years later, mind you, when Samantha is 18 - which makes Frank around 23 or 24. So why would these powers to see the future manifest itself only at 18, and take so long? And why would Frank the bunny be in it still, since it's not the same Halloween? Will this movie even make any sense as a sequel to the first one?

I guess only time will tell, and I will see it, although I have a mindset against it. I just hope it isn't so terrible that it ruins the first film for me. I want to root for S. Darko, because I would love for it to be as good as Donnie, but I doubt that that will happen, especially since Richard Kelly is not directing this time around.

Random comment on this:

Kelly said that the idea from Alice in Wonderland, where the rabbit or bunny leads the protagonist to its destiny are the reason Frank is in the movie. I would say that this idea will still be present in s.Darko .. perhaps not with Frank but with another bunny character to fit Sam's destiny.

Read this: it will explain it better than I can ..

That is interesting to think that Frank would be like the bunny from Alice in Wonderland, but I can't believe that even if it was an allusion in the first movie, albeit one that can either be picked up on or left alone (such as I like to do), it will be used again in this second film.

It seems too redundant to be used again, and less creative.

Duh, thought it's directed by Kelly... We loved Donnie Darko though.

personally i don't know what to feel about the use of frank or any other rabbit in this film, it would simply become a rehash unless it was used more as a reference or an homage to the original.

I think ariel the unicorn would be far more appropriate

I think I am one of the few who did not love the first one. I can't imagine a 2nd one being any "better"
